AN internal investigation into the Toowoomba Catholic Education Office’s handling of a sexual abuse complaint against a primary school teacher is nearly complete.

A nine-year-old girl allegedly told her principal that she had been molested by the 60-year-old man, who was arrested on 12 counts of rape and 34 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12.

The principal was charged in April with failing to report the sexual abuse of a person under 18 years.

Catholic Education director John Borserio later ordered an internal inquiry by a Brisbane legal firm.

“Interviews of relevant staff from the school and the Toowoomba Catholic Education Office have now been completed. Due to the separate legal process involving the principal he has not yet been interviewed,” he said.
