Statewide campaign against child sex abuse to kick off in Plano

The fight against child sexual abuse will take another step forward with today's launch of the "One With Courage" campaign.

Officials from the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas and state Sen. Florence Shapiro will kick off the statewide initiative this morning in Plano.

It is the first public awareness campaign of its kind in Texas. It will produce public service announcements that center on the courage required to face child abuse, both for the victims of abuse and those reporting suspected abuse.

Organizers hope the campaign's TV, radio, Web and print ads will inspire people to take action, whether it's just talking about abuse or volunteering at an advocacy center, said Jane Donovan, a child abuse prevention advocate.
